Hell Let Loose looks harder than it has to be in the first round. You often die, opponents are hard to spot and the map only explains part of what is important right now. The decisive difference to a normal shooter: Your effect is not only caused by hits. Spawn points, supplies, communication and a squad that acts together decide many rounds long before the next shot falls.
This guide will take you through the first few evenings without making any role a study. Server-related rules are separate in the FLN Rulebook.

The first ten minutes
Open the server, join an open infantry squad and greet the squad briefly. A simple “Hi, I’m new” is enough. With this, the squad lead knows that short explanations are useful and that you do not intentionally ignore important processes.
First, choose Rifleman, Support, Medic, or Engineer. Spawn at the squad, not automatically at headquarters. If there is no outpost yet, wait shortly or ask. A twenty-minute walk is rarely the planned entry.
Follow the squad lead, but do not run directly to its position when shooting. Use cover, watch the pings, and watch for short orders: hold, embarrasse, bring supplies, defend, or seek an enemy spawn.
You will often hear opponents before you see them. Shots, steps, vehicle engines and voices in the local chat provide clues. Stop for a moment before crossing an open surface. Motion is more noticeable in HLL than a player who observes briefly in cover.

Squads and Communications
An infantry squad consists of a squad lead and several roles. The squad lead sets the outpost, marks goals and communicates with the management level. The rest of the squad keeps in touch, reports information and supports the current task.
You don't need long radio messages. A good report contains:
- What you see,
- in which direction,
- Approximately how far away,
- and whether it is an acute danger.
Example: “Infantry, 220, behind the hedge, about 80 meters.”In the case of a vehicle, you only name the type if you recognize it. “Tank, 310, road to the north” is better than a false exact model designation.
Use local voice chat for players in your immediate vicinity and squad radio for your squad. Commandchat is for squad leads and commanders. If your squad lead is speaking simultaneously in command chat, give him a moment before repeating the same question three times.
Pings are helpful, but do not replace information. A ping without explanation can mean opponent, vehicle, direction or just a planned runway. Say briefly about what you mark.
Outposts and Garrisons
The Outpost is the mobile spawn point of your squad. Only members of this squad can spawn there. The squad lead can set it without supplies, as long as the rules of the game and position allow. A good outpost is close enough to the task, but not in the middle of the opponent’s obvious path.
The Garrison It is a Teampawn. It requires supplies and can be used by several squads. Garrisons give the team depth: a position for the attack, a safe fallback option, and spawns for defense. A team with only one obvious garrison is easy to calculate.
Spawn points can be blocked or destroyed by enemy proximity. If your spawn turns red, pay attention to the environment and report it. Spawn not ten times blind into the same situation. Sometimes a more distant spawn is the faster choice because you’ll actually be able to act from there.
Search for enemy spawns based on movement patterns. If opponents keep coming back from the same hedge line, there is probably an outpost or a garrison there. Mark the area and don’t approach alone on the most obvious route.
Supplies and Nodes
Supplies are building materials for garrisons, nodes and fortifications. The support player carries a supply box. The commander can also request a supply drop. An air drop is visible from a great distance and often tells the opponent where a garrison should arise.
If your Squad Lead asks for Supplies, briefly switch to Support or move your box to the marked position. Don’t leave them somewhere on the route just to get rid of the ability. When in doubt, ask yourself, “Do you have any doubts?”
Engineers bauen Nodesthat provide resources to the team. Nodes are important, but must be placed meaningfully and provided with supplies. As a new engineer, ask the squad lead or commander where they are needed. Don’t build a fortress on your own in a sector the team loses.
Fortifications can strengthen a defense, but also block their own paths. Barricades, barbed wire and bunkers are therefore built with a view to walkways, lines of sight and retreat.
Good roles for getting started
Rifleman
Rifleman is straightforward and gives you time to learn map, movement and communication. Depending on the loadout, you carry ammunition that can be useful for MG, anti-tank or other roles.
Support
Support is one of the most valuable entry-level roles. You stay with the squad lead and deliver supplies when a spawn point or position is built. The task is easy to understand and has a direct impact on the round.
Medic
Medic can revive fallen players and use smoke. The role is especially helpful in covered positions or in a close attack. But do not run for every revival through open fire. A player who falls again immediately only costs additional time.
Engineer
Engineer builds nodes, repair stations, fortifications and mines. The role is good if you briefly ask what is needed. Nodes at the start of a round are often more valuable than a random barricade far behind the front.
Anti-tank and Automatic Rifleman
These roles are more contested. Only use anti-tank if you are willing to spot vehicles, find suitable hit areas, and don’t waste ammunition on infantry. Automatic Rifleman is more accessible, but should not become a continuous fire without a target.
Squad Lead and Commander
As a squad lead, you are responsible for outpost, markings and communication. As a Commander, you coordinate multiple squads and team resources. Do not try these roles until you understand the map and basic systems or an experienced team consciously supports you.
Attack and defence
When attacking, the direct path is rarely the best. Useful terrain, smoke and several spawning directions. One squad can tie pressure while another seeks an enemy spawn. If all players run on the same road, the opponent only has to hold one direction.
Defense does not mean sitting in the Strongpoint waiting for the next opponent. Observe driveways, keep your own garrisons free and search for enemy spawn points without leaving the position completely. A good defender recognizes where the opponent builds the next attack.
Pay attention to the active sector and the game mode. Warfare and offensive have different requirements. If in doubt, ask the squad lead if the squad is attacking, defending or securing a flank path. “Somewhere between the points” is rarely a conscious task.
Vehicles and special roles
Tanks are intended as a crew. Drivers, Gunner and Spotter have different tasks. A single-staffed heavy tank is slow, ill-informed and ties up valuable resources. Join an armour squad and say which position you know.
Transportation and supply trucks are not disposable taxis when they are used for logistics. Park vehicles so that they do not block paths and spawns. When you take over a vehicle, pay attention to the purpose and ask in case of uncertainty.
Recon, Artillery and other limited systems may have their own server rules. Read the relevant section in Rules. General YouTube recommendations do not replace a server-related rule.
Typical beginner errors
- Just look for kills: A destroyed garrison can do more than several single launches.
- Running from the wrong spawn: Before each spawn, check where your squad actually works.
- Stumm Spezialrollen blockieren: Communication is part of the role.
- Shooting every contact immediately: Sometimes the position of an enemy garrison is more valuable than a single kill.
- Supplies irgendwo abwerfen: Wait for a position or ask.
- Discuss in the Commandchat: Leadership communication must remain free for relevant messages.
- Teamkills in chat escalate: Apologize for an accident; use the reporting route on purpose.
Fair Play and Reports
Mistakes, bad decisions and lack of experience are not rule violations. Cheats, exploits, intentional team kills, insults or targeted disruption. Underneath Report Info indicates what information is required for a test.
A short clip should contain enough history to classify the situation. Don’t just cut out the last moment when the conflict started before. The team reviews the report; a report is not yet a confirmed guilt.

Frequent questions for Hell-Let-Loose beginners
Which role is suitable for the first Hell-Let-Loose round?
Rifleman, Medic or a support role agreed with the squad lead are good starters. More important than class choice is to stay with the squad, respond to short instructions and not block special roles whose tasks you do not yet know.
Do I need a microphone in Hell Let Loose?
Voice is very helpful for good squadplay. You don’t have to speak permanently; short messages about opponents, spawn points, vehicles or your task are enough. Anyone who listens and answers understandably is already a valuable part of the team in the first round.
What is the difference between Outpost and Garrison?
An outpost is a spawn point for your own squad and can be set by the squad lead. A garrison serves several squads of the team and requires suitable conditions. Both are often more important for the lap outcome than a high personal shooting number.
Why do I die as a beginner so often without seeing opponents?
HLL rewards observation, coverage and reading of the front. Slow down your pace, check directions on the map, and follow experienced squad members. Often, the danger is not in front of you, but in an open flank or a poorly chosen path.
Where do I report rule violations on an FLN server?
Collect usable information and use Players report. A report is not an automatic condemnation, but the start of a comprehensible examination. Technical problems belong instead in the Support.
Why are supplies and nodes so important?
They enable garrisons, fortifications and commander capabilities. A team without supplies loses long-term freedom of movement and spawn points.
When should I open a squad myself?
If there is no suitable space available and you want to communicate, you can start a squad. Set an outpost early and set clear goals.
Where can I practice roles without pressure?
Use training, empty server phases or agreed community rounds. In the Discord you will find experienced players who explain mechanics.
What a Good First HLL Round Really Makes
You don’t have to be able to lead tanks or play commander after the first round. A good start means: staying with the squad, recognizing spawn points on the map, giving short messages and taking the task of your role seriously. If your squad can build a garrison because of your supplies or you report a hostile spawn, you’ve already contributed more than with a long solo tour.
Hell Let Loose rewards reliability. Speak early, but briefly. Ask if an order is unclear. A community does not become beginner-friendly by nobody making mistakes, but by answering questions and making progress visible together.
