The Basic Loop
Before an expedition, you assemble your hitchhiker and decide what equipment you want to risk. In the world, you will search cities, ruins, wrecks and other places for Loot. After that, you must reach an extract and survive long enough to bring back loot, crew and tramplers.
The trampler is a means of transport, base, warehouse and weapon. A good personal loadout helps little if the vehicle is immobile, confusing or difficult to defend.
Planning the Trampler
Don't just build by optics. A trampler needs a clear purpose. To get started, a compact structure makes sense, in which crew members can quickly switch between control, weapons, repair and warehouse.
Check during construction:
- Are important stations reachable quickly?
- Can crew members pass each other?
- Are warehouses and ammunition protected but accessible?
- Are there blind spots on weapons?
- Is the vehicle still operable after damage?
- Is the structure suitable for the planned group size?
More modules do not automatically mean a better trampler. A large vehicle is visible, needs coordination and can use paths more difficult. A small body has fewer reserves, but is easier to control and repair.
Voyage Mode and Storm Dive
The early access stand distinguishes between Voyage Mode and Storm Dive. Voyage is suitable for testing builds and for lower risks. Storm Dive increases effort and potential reward; a sandstorm narrows the scope for action and intensifies encounters.
Use Voyage to test your treadmills, weapon angles and operation of your trampler. A build that looks good in the editor can be impractical under time pressure. Storm Dive makes sense when crew, equipment and retreat plan go together.
The modes and their balance can change in Early Access. The visible date of this guide shows when the description was last checked.
Playing as a crew
A crew needs clear tasks. Drivers or navigators focus on route and position. Others operate weapons, observe the environment, repair or organize loot. Roles can change, but should not be unclear during a contact.
Nutzt kurze Ansagen:
- Direction and distance of a contact
- Zustand wichtiger Module
- Missing ammunition or repair
- Planned stop or change of direction
- Deciding on Combat, Retreat or Extraction
A crew member who quietly leaves the hitchhiker creates uncertainty. Says briefly who goes looten and who stays on the vehicle.
Solo play is possible, but requires more change between control, observation and combat. A compact trampler and a more cautious risk profile are more important than maximum firepower.
Loot and risk
Not every find justifies a long stay. Sort loot by actual value for build, equipment or later sale. A full hitchhiker is not a success if you lose it because of overweight, poor organization or an unnecessary fight.
Before several crew members enter a building, secure the surroundings and plan the way back. Hold the vehicle so that it is not in a dead end. Engine sounds, smoke and movements on the horizon can betray other players – and also make you visible.
PvPvE and contacts
On Sophie, other players are not the only danger. Opponents of PvE, world conditions and lack of resources can prepare or intensify a struggle. A loud PvE contact can attract more crews.
Not every encounter has to end in battle. Communication or evasion can make sense, but is not a guarantee. Trust in position, observation, and a retreat, not verbal promises alone.
When you fight, focus fire and movement. A hitchhiker that rotates simultaneously in several directions loses overview. Report damages and decide early on whether the fight can continue.
Extraction
The extract is not a secure end screen. Other players can observe the same zone or react to the start of the process. Do not approach without enlightenment.
Before extraction:
- Examine ammunition and repair condition.
- Bring the crew and Loot fully on board.
- Observe the surroundings and possible accesses.
- Position hitchhikers so that weapons and retreat work.
- Define tasks for the last phase.
A successful extract starts with the decision to stop in time. Those who want to go “only one place” after a good run increase the risk for the entire previous loot.
Einsteigerfehler
- Tramplers too big and confusing to build
- Do not leave clear paths in the interior
- Let all crew members loot at the same time
- Fighting without a retreat
- Risking valuable equipment in a test expedition
- Start extraction too late
- Adopt early access changes from old videos as current status

Frequently Asked Questions about SAND: Raiders of Sophie
What is the basic gameplay in SAND: Raiders of Sophie?
Prepare your hitchhiker, explore dangerous areas, collect loot, and make timely decisions about retreat or further risk. The value of a tour comes not only from Loot, but also from the ability to bring the crew and vehicle safely out of the situation.
Why is the trampler so important?
The trampler is a means of transport, base and joint project of the crew. Its division determines how well navigation, care, defense and loot work. Therefore, renovations should be planned together, instead of just optimizing your own workplace.
Can I play Sand alone?
A solo starter can explain mechanics, but a coordinated crew distributes observation, control, repair and decision-making much better. Over Find players You can tune play style and desired tasks before the start.
When should a crew extract?
Not only when every resource is consumed. Include the condition of the hitchhiker, supplies, return route, known contacts and the value of the loot. A controlled extraction with reserves is usually better than a last risky detour without an alternative plan.
How should I behave when meeting other players?
Observe first, clarify the intent of your crew and avoid conflicting individual actions. PvPvE thrives on uncertainty; clear internal communication helps to consciously decide between evasion, contact and struggle. The general limits are in FLN Rulebook.
Bleibt mein Fortschritt dauerhaft gespeichert?
This depends on the respective SAND server mode and its persistence. Planned resets or changes will be announced in advance.
Which equipment should a new team prioritize first?
First of all, ensures mobility, basic care and reliable communication. Specialised equipment is worthwhile once tasks are clearly distributed.
Where do I find out about server and game updates?
Current information appears on the website and in the Discord. For major changes, we add guides and well-known workarounds.
A good crew is more valuable than a bigger hitchhiker
SAND is not only exciting by loot, but by decisions under pressure. Who is watching the surroundings? Who keeps the hitchhiker ready to drive? When is the cargo space full enough to make the way back? A small crew with clear tasks often progresses further than a larger group in which everyone pursues the same goal at the same time.
Plan your first tour consciously conservatively. Learn an area, test communication, and take only equipment that you can handle losing. Each successful extract creates knowledge for the next journey. Because the game changes in Early Access, this guide separates general game principles from time-dependent details.
